Farm-grown winter squash plants ready for your home garden.
Grow a harvest made for cozy fall meals with healthy winter squash starts grown right here at Wendland Family Farm.
Our Winter Squash Starts are grown from seed and cared for on the farm until they're ready to head home to your garden. Choose from available butternut, acorn, spaghetti, and specialty varieties for roasting, baking, soups, hearty meals, and storing into the cooler months.
Winter squash plants need more growing space than many garden vegetables, but they're a rewarding choice for gardeners with room to let their vines stretch.
Varieties may include:
Butternut squash • acorn squash • spaghetti squash • specialty winter squash varieties
Specific varieties will be listed as options when available.
Growing at Home
Winter squash loves warm soil, full sunshine, and plenty of room to grow.
Plant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed. Choose a sunny location with rich, well-drained soil and allow plenty of space for vines to spread.
Water consistently throughout the growing season, particularly while plants are flowering and developing fruit.
Unlike summer squash, winter squash is allowed to fully mature on the vine. Harvest when fruits have developed their mature color, the rind has hardened, and the stem begins to dry.

Plant size and appearance may naturally vary by variety.
Winter squash vines require substantial garden space, so consider the mature size of your selected variety when planting.
Availability is limited to the plants we've grown for each season. Once a variety sells out, it may not be available again until the following year.
From Our Garden to Yours
Winter squash asks you to wait a little longer for the reward.
You plant it in spring, watch the vines wander through the garden all summer, and finally gather the mature squash as the growing season begins winding down.
We start these plants from seed here on the farm and send them home ready to grow through the season with you.
Grown on our farm. Ready for your garden.
