Flowers are where much of the story of Wendland Family Farm began.
What started with seeds, curiosity, and a love for growing something beautiful has become fields filled with specialty cut flowers—and countless ways to share them with our community.
We grow flowers seasonally on our farm in West Point, Iowa, choosing varieties for their color, texture, movement, fragrance, vase life, and the simple fact that sometimes a flower is too beautiful or interesting not to grow.
You'll find familiar favorites here.
You'll also find heirloom varieties, unusual colors, delicate stems, dramatic blooms, and flowers you may have never seen in a grocery-store bouquet.

And most travel only a few miles before finding their way into someone's hands.
Flowers Follow the Season
One of the most beautiful things about locally grown flowers is that they change.
Spring may begin with bulbs and cool-season blooms.
As the weather warms, the flower field changes with it.
Summer brings an entirely different palette, followed by the rich colors, textures, and abundance of late summer and fall.
Throughout the growing season, we may grow tulips, narcissus, ranunculus, anemones, peonies, snapdragons, lisianthus, zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, celosia, amaranth, gomphrena, dahlias, specialty foliage, fillers, and many other varieties.
But we don't promise a particular flower on a particular date.
Weather changes.
Bloom times shift.
Some varieties surprise us.
Others make us work for every single stem.
That's agriculture.
Instead of forcing flowers into a predetermined calendar, we design with the best of what the field is giving us at that moment.
It means a bouquet from June won't look like a bouquet from September.
We think that's exactly how it should be.
Not Your Grocery Store Flowers
We grow flowers differently because we're growing for a local market.
Our flowers don't need to be bred primarily to withstand days of shipping, warehouses, boxes, and long-distance transportation.
That gives us the freedom to grow flowers because they're beautiful.
Because they have incredible movement.
Because their color is unusual.
Because they smell wonderful.
Because they add something special to an arrangement.
Or because Erica found the seed variety and simply couldn't resist growing it.
That means our bouquets can include flowers and foliage you won't commonly find in traditional floral departments.
And because they're grown locally, they're harvested close to the time they reach you.
No airplane required.
Just a short trip from our field to your home.
Fresh Bouquets
Sometimes you don't need a reason to buy flowers.
Throughout the growing season, we create fresh, seasonal bouquets using what is beautiful and abundant in the field.
No two harvest weeks are exactly alike, which means no two weeks of bouquets are exactly alike either.
You may find soft spring colors one week, bright summer flowers another, and rich dahlias and autumn textures later in the season.
That's one of our favorite parts of designing with locally grown flowers.
The field decides what comes next.
Bouquets may be available seasonally through the farm, our Farm Stand, farmers markets, CSA memberships, special offerings, and our online shop.
Flower CSA Memberships
Want flowers to become part of your season instead of something you remember to buy occasionally?
That's exactly what our Flower CSA memberships are designed to do.
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
Members commit to the farm before or during the growing season, and in return, they receive a share of what we're growing.
For our flower members, that means a series of farmer-grown bouquets designed around what's blooming beautifully during their membership season.
Your membership helps us purchase seeds, plugs, bulbs, supplies, compost, and everything else required to grow the coming crop.
Then we get to spend the season sharing the harvest with you.
It's one of the most direct ways to support a small local farm—and one of the prettiest.
Because dates, seasons, pickup information, pricing, and availability can change from year to year, you'll find all current details with our active CSA offerings.
Pick Your Own Flowers
There's a difference between receiving a bouquet and walking into the field to choose the flowers yourself.
Our flower U-Picks invite you to slow down, wander the rows, notice what's blooming, and create something completely your own.
Some people carefully coordinate every color.
Some let their children choose.
Some start with a plan and abandon it approximately three flowers into the field.
We support all three approaches.
U-Picks are seasonal, weather-dependent, and offered when the field has enough blooms to provide a great picking experience.
Public and private U-Pick opportunities may be offered throughout the growing season.
Buckets of Blooms
Sometimes you don't need us to make the arrangement.
You just need the flowers.
Buckets of Blooms offer seasonal farm-grown flowers for people who want to arrange, create, decorate, or share them themselves.
They're a natural fit for:
Bridal and baby showers.
Birthday celebrations.
Dinner parties.
Church gatherings.
Graduation parties.
Small weddings.
DIY arrangements.
Creative gatherings.
Or filling your house with an unreasonable number of flowers—which we fully support.
Because our flowers are seasonal, bucket contents vary based on what is blooming and harvest-ready at the farm.
Build a Flower Bar
A flower bar turns the harvest into an experience.
Buckets filled with locally grown flowers become the starting point, and guests get to choose their favorites and create something of their own.
Flower bars can be a beautiful addition to celebrations, gatherings, workshops, and special events.
Depending on the offering and season, flower bars may be available through the farm or as part of private experiences.
And because the flowers come from our fields, every flower bar reflects what's actually blooming at that point in the season.
Flowers for Gatherings & Celebrations
Flowers have a way of making people gather a little closer.
If you're planning something special, farm-grown flowers can bring a relaxed, seasonal feel to the day without needing everything to look identical or come from a catalog.

Flowers have become one of our favorite ways to teach agriculture, creativity, nature, pollinators, growing skills, and the simple pleasure of making something with your own hands.

Find Us at the Farmers Market
During market season, you'll often find Wendland Family Farm loaded up with whatever the fields are giving us and headed to the West Point Farmers Market.
Fresh bouquets are a big part of our market table, alongside other seasonal farm harvests and goods.
Markets give us something the internet never can:
A chance to hand you the flowers ourselves.
To answer questions.
To hear where the bouquet is headed.
To see familiar faces come back week after week.
And to be part of a community supporting the people who grow and make things close to home.

From Fresh Flowers to Something More
A flower's usefulness doesn't necessarily end when the fresh-cut season does.
Throughout the year, we continue exploring ways to preserve and use what we've grown.
Flowers may be dried, pressed, saved for seed, incorporated into workshops, used in seasonal creations, or become inspiration for educational resources and projects.
We're also continually experimenting with varieties worth saving, growing, sharing, and teaching about.
That's part of the bigger Wendland Family Farm philosophy:
Grow it.
Use it.
Learn from it.
Share what you learned.
Then grow something again.
Flowers Grown by a Farmer
Behind every bouquet is a lot of work you don't see.
Seed orders in winter.
Trays under grow lights.
Tiny seedlings.
Soil preparation.
Planting.
Watering.
Weeding.
Netting.
Pinching.
Staking.
Watching the forecast.
Checking for pests.
Harvesting in the heat.
Cleaning buckets.
And doing it all again tomorrow.
That's part of what makes locally grown flowers meaningful to us.
They're agricultural products.
Someone grew them.
Here, that someone is Erica.
She plans the crops, starts the seeds, plants the field, tends the flowers, harvests the stems, and turns many of them into the bouquets that leave the farm.
Flowers may be beautiful.
Growing them is still farming.
And we wouldn't have it any other way.
