Farm-grown melon plants ready for your home garden.

Grow one of summer's sweetest harvests at home with healthy melon starts grown right here at Wendland Family Farm.

Our Melon Starts are grown from seed and cared for on the farm until they're ready to head home to your garden. Choose from available watermelon, cantaloupe, muskmelon, and specialty varieties for fresh summer snacking, picnics, fruit salads, and sharing around the table.

Melons love Iowa's warm summer weather and are a fun choice for home gardeners with enough room to let their vines grow.

Varieties may include:

Watermelon • cantaloupe • muskmelon • specialty melon varieties

Specific varieties will be listed as options when available.

Growing at Home

Melons love warmth, sunshine, and plenty of growing space.

Plant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed. Choose a location that receives plenty of direct sunlight and has rich, well-drained soil.

Allow plenty of room for vines to spread and water consistently, especially while plants are flowering and developing fruit.

Melons are heavy feeders and appreciate fertile soil throughout the growing season.

Harvest timing varies by variety, so watch for the individual signs of ripeness recommended for the melon you're growing.

Plant size and appearance may naturally vary by variety.

Melon vines require plenty of garden space, so consider the mature size of your selected variety when planting.

Availability is limited to the plants we've grown for each season. Once a variety sells out, it may not be available again until the following year.

From Our Garden to Yours

There's something pretty satisfying about watching a tiny melon start turn into sprawling vines with fruit tucked beneath the leaves.

We start these plants from seed here on the farm, care for them through their earliest weeks, and send them home ready for a summer of growing in your garden.

And eventually, you get the best part—cutting into a melon you grew yourself.

Grown on our farm. Ready for your garden.
