The Dirt (FAQs)
When can I get my flowers?
Pick up from the farm will be scheduled when you order.
How many buckets do I need?
We put together a comprehensive stem guide to help you determine how many stems of flowers you'll need for your event! Read it HERE to determine how many buckets you'll need.
Can I request certain colors?
We harvest whatever looks best from our fields and provide a colorful bucket of flowers. We can't always accommodate specific color requests depending what is blooming the week of your event. Ordering bulk buckets is probably not a good option for you if you are set on a specific color palette.
Can I request a certain kind of flower?
We provide only flowers that are in season and actively blooming on the farm at the time of your event. We do not import flowers in order to meet specific flower variety requests.
What flowers are in season?Check out our seasonal availability guide to see what types of flowers are usually in season for your event. Please note that every season is different, depending on the weather.
How many stems come in a bucket?Approximately 60-70 stems.
How should I care for the flowers? To ensure flower quality, keep your flowers in a cool and shady environment, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Do not store them near ripening fruit or vegetables (they emit ethylene gas, which can decrease the life of your flowers). Always ensure the flower stems are in plenty of clean water, and keep them hydrated in vases or buckets of water as much as possible. Strip foliage on the stems that fall below the water line to ensure the longest vase life.
How do I transport my flowers?
If you’re picking up just a couple of buckets, they typically fit comfortably on the floor between the front and back seats of most cars. For more than three buckets, please bring a vehicle with plenty of space in the backseat or cargo area (SUVs/hatchbacks work well). If you’re picking up more than eight buckets, a larger vehicle like an SUV is recommended. Important: Flowers should not be transported in open truck beds or exposed to the elements.
Bloom Care Guide
Each bouquet is hand-picked to highlight the best blooms of the season. Follow these simple steps to make your flowers last as long as possible and enjoy their beauty every day.
1. Prep Your Flowers
-
Strip off any leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent bacteria growth.
-
Give each stem a fresh diagonal cut (about 1/2 inch) using clean scissors or pruning shears. This opens the stems to absorb water more efficiently.
2. Choose the Right Vase (or jar!)
-
Pick a vase large enough to give stems room to breathe.
-
Clean the vase thoroughly to avoid bacteria that shortens flower life.
-
Fill with fresh, cool water and add floral preservative (recommended).
3. Daily Flower Care
-
Change the water every 1-2 days.
-
Trim stems about 1/4 inch each time you change the water.
-
Remove any wilted or browning flowers promptly — this keeps the remaining blooms healthy.
4. Placement Tips
-
Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, heat vents, and fruit bowls.
-
A cool spot in your home helps flowers last longer.
-
Avoid drafts from fans or open windows.
5. Bonus Tips for Longevity
-
A little sugar or floral preservative in the water (1 tsp per cup) can nourish blooms.
-
A drop of bleach or a floral preservative can slow bacteria growth.
-
Mist delicate petals with water occasionally for extra freshness.
6. Enjoy!
Take time each day to admire your blooms — fresh flowers not only brighten your home but also your heart.
