Junior Flower Farmers is Wendland Family Farm’s hands-on agricultural program created especially for kids who are ready to dig deeper.
Throughout eight workshops, Junior Flower Farmers will step beyond simply exploring the farm and begin learning the real skills behind growing flowers, vegetables, and herbs.
They'll plant, grow, harvest, create, experiment, problem-solve, and experience firsthand what it takes to care for a garden and work on a small farm.
From starting seeds and understanding healthy soil to harvesting flowers and creating with what they've grown, each workshop combines practical farm skills with engaging, age-appropriate agricultural education.
This is a place for curious kids who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.

WHAT WILL JUNIOR FLOWER FARMERS LEARN?
Every workshop focuses on a different part of growing and working with the land.
Throughout the season, Junior Flower Farmers may explore topics such as:

Activities are designed specifically for ages 8–12 and encourage children to take a more active and independent role in their learning.
Rather than simply being shown how something works, Junior Flower Farmers will have opportunities to do the work themselves.

Junior Flower Farmers isn't a traditional classroom—and that's exactly the point.
The flower field becomes the classroom.
Kids might measure and plant a garden bed, examine soil, start seeds, identify insects, harvest vegetables, cut flowers at the proper stage, learn why a plant isn't thriving, or turn freshly harvested stems into a bouquet they designed themselves.
Some lessons will be beautiful.
Some will be messy.
Some might involve dirt under their fingernails and muddy shoes.
All of them are designed to help children understand that the flowers and food we enjoy don't simply appear—they are grown through knowledge, work, patience, and care.
MORE THAN FLOWERS
Despite the name, Junior Flower Farmers will learn about much more than flowers.
Our farm gives us an incredible outdoor classroom for exploring horticulture, agriculture, ecology, food, herbs, pollinators, sustainability, creativity, and small-farm life.
The goal isn't simply to teach children facts about plants.
It's to give them opportunities to become capable, curious, confident young growers who understand where things come from and aren't afraid to learn by doing.
Over eight workshops, they'll watch the farm change through the seasons while building skills and knowledge right alongside it.
