Sourdough Benefits


  • Sourdough bread is the easiest bread to digest because of the fermentation that occurs when the grain mixtures use bacteria already present in the grains or pick up wild yeasts and bacteria from the environment. 


  • Sourdough is a long process to make bread, but well worth the effort in digestibility and health benefits - 48-hours of slow fermentation can destroy 97% of the gluten.


  • Sourdough contains naturally occurring probiotics due to lactic acid fermentation, which helps feed the “good” bacteria in your intestines and aids in digestion.


  • Sourdough may aid in blood sugar management. The fermentation process and higher fiber content makes sourdough a useful option and limits blood sugar spikes.


  • Diets high in fiber are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, sourdough appears to offer additional benefits thanks to the fermentation process. Healthy aging - yes, please!
